Schön Chulm, located at 2040 meters above sea level in the Uri region of Switzerland, offers a unique paragliding experience. This site is accessible by foot or flight, with a hike of approximately 1.5 hours from either Eggbergen or Ruogig. The starting point can be reached by taking a post bus from Flüelen to Brügg (Bürglen) and then a cable car to Ruogig. From the cable car station at 1730 meters, it's a 300-meter ascent on well-marked hiking trails.
The launch site is a beautiful meadow with a southwest orientation, making it an easy takeoff spot. The views of the Urner Alps and Lake Uri are breathtaking, providing a perfect backdrop for your flight.
Schön Chulm offers launch directions from south to north, allowing for various flight paths. You can soar along the ridge towards Lake Uri or head towards Hüenderegg and follow the standard route towards Klausen Pass. Morning flights can take advantage of thermal conditions to fly towards Rophaien, with options to continue over Lake Uri towards Isenthal and into the Engelberg Valley, or towards the Schwyz basin, Rigi, Mythen, and Muotathal.
Be cautious of the cables in the area; it's essential to gather information about their locations before your flight. Soaring conditions are favorable with a west wind, allowing you to soar towards Eggbergen and along the ridge over Flüelen. With a light south wind (not Föhn), you can fly towards Schächental (Bürglen). Bise wind flights are also possible.
