Takeoff:
- Palau Saverdera (SW): Takeoff is just below the windsock.
- Port de la Selva (NE): One takeoff is below the windsock (NE) for expert pilots as it is a bit short. The other is just below the wall of the Castle of San Salvador (ENE). Possibility of thermal or ridge soaring with light NE wind. Be cautious of the Tramontana wind: Do not fly if there are "whitecaps" in the bay of Port de la Selva, indicating strong winds. On Tramontana days, the wind in Port de la Selva can be 20-30 km/h stronger than at takeoff.
Landings:
- Palau-Saverdera: Medium difficulty. Be cautious of the road and power lines. Predominant wind from the sea (SE).
- Port de la Selva: Beach landing. Be cautious of people in summer. Predominant wind from the sea (NE). Alternative landings next to the tennis courts, on the road from Selva de Mar, and on the ridge descending to the village, in the fields beside the road.
Access:
- A-7 motorway, exit Figueres. Follow the N-II and take the road to Llançà. Turn right at the Roses junction and about 2 km further, in Vilajuïga, turn left to cross the village and climb to the parking lot of the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. Walk to the monastery door and take the path up to the Castle of San Salvador. Halfway up, you will see the windsock. The other takeoff is just below the castle wall.
- To reach the landing field, once in Vilajuïga, head towards Roses until you reach Palau-Saverdera. The landing field is behind the cooperative, to the right of the road.
- To get to Port de la Selva, take the road down from Sant Pere de Rodes.
Observations:
- Weather beacon on frequency 143.9875. Wind information every 15 minutes.
- The flying area is within the Cap de Creus Natural Park. Please be mindful of the environment.
Flight conditions:
- Flight between 500 m (S) and 600 m (NE) elevation difference. Possibilities for thermal or dynamic ridge soaring. Convergence forms on days with light NE wind, making it easy to head NW towards France or land in Roses.
Weather hazards:
- Note the Tramontana wind: Do not fly if there is a strong north wind.
