The site is known for its thermal and dynamic flying conditions, with the possibility of cross-country flights along the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines ridge, either south or north.
The launch site faces south/southwest and is free of obstacles, featuring a large grassy area. However, be cautious of sudden wind gusts, especially along the ridge. In such cases, it is advisable to take off 50-100 meters lower. There is also a north/northeast takeoff option, but it offers less efficiency and fewer landing spots.
The flight conditions often include strong valley breezes, which can create turbulence in the lee areas. During the warmer months, strong thermals can provide significant altitude gains, up to 2500 meters above sea level, allowing for decent distance flights. Pilots should be aware of the cable car wires to the right of the takeoff, which can pose a hazard, especially for less experienced pilots. It is recommended to avoid flying during the central hours of the day due to turbulence.
Landing is in a large grassy area (100m x 200m) surrounded by trees, with a single power line at the edge of the field. The landing zone is near the village of Vizzaneta, accessible from the junction for Lizzano P.se on the Brennero state road between Lima and Cutigliano. Pilots should anticipate their landing maneuvers to avoid various downdrafts. Apart from the tree perimeter, there are no other obstacles or dangers.
