From Saas Fee, take the gondola to Hannig Alp. The takeoff area is a moderately steep meadow with some scree.
The area in the Valais Alps is optimal for flying in the summer (July to August) due to excellent thermals. However, it is not a major flying destination due to the lack of variety in takeoff and landing spots. The altitude difference of around 500 meters also limits the range of flights.
Difficulty:
You should thoroughly research your landing options beforehand. There is no official landing site! Always be mindful of the valley wind, and if there is no snow in the valley, the thermals can be very strong. The narrow valleys, significant altitude differences, and glaciers, combined with unexpectedly challenging weather conditions, make this area quite demanding.
If you plan to take off from the Allalinhorn, be aware that the approach to the takeoff point leads to a 4000-meter peak. Although it is considered an 'easy' 4000er, it is still a glacier mountain with all its inherent dangers (crevasses, sudden weather changes, etc.). If you have little or no experience with glaciers, either avoid it or find someone with the necessary expertise, such as a mountain guide.
