Description
Located in the Schwyz region of Switzerland, the Rigi-Scheidegg paragliding site offers a medium-difficulty flying experience at an altitude of 1655 meters. This site is regularly used and is known for its excellent Bise soaring conditions, with some potential for cross-country flights.
The launch site at Scheidegg is situated just above Goldau and provides stunning views extending over Zug and into the Swiss Plateau. The exact coordinates for the launch site are 47° 01' 44'' N, 8° 31' 17'' E. The launch area is small and short, located just a one-minute walk from the mountain station.
Rigi-Scheidegg is considered one of the best and most reliable Bise flying areas in Central Switzerland. You can reach the summit at 1660 meters via a six-minute cable car ride from Kräbel, located above Goldau. The site features a flat area facing southwest and a steep drop-off to the northeast, making it ideal for soaring when the northeast wind is present, both in summer and winter.
When thermal conditions dominate, especially in the evening, you can expect updrafts throughout the basin between Rigi, Rossberg, Hochstuckli, and the Mythen. During Bise conditions in spring, the challenge often shifts from staying aloft to descending.
The launch window is oriented towards the northeast and is classified as medium difficulty. The launch site is a small flat area for inflation, followed by a terrain edge and a short, steep forest clearing. Note that the cable car company is not particularly friendly to pilots, and there is no effort to maintain the launch site despite the payment of start/landing fees.
