Description
The Hike&Fly tour to Rifugio Daviso in Val Grande starts from Forno Alpi Graie at an elevation of 1219 meters and ends at Rifugio Daviso at 2280 meters, with the takeoff point at 2340 meters. The elevation gain is approximately 1100 meters, and the hike takes about 3 hours.
The Levanne mountain group is located in the Graian Alps on the border between Italy and France, near the localities of Groscavallo, Ceresole Reale, and Bonneval-sur-Arc. It consists of three peaks: Levanna Orientale (3555 meters), Levanna Centrale (3619 meters), and Levanna Occidentale (3593 meters). The group dominates the head of Val Grande di Lanzo and Val dell’Orco. Levanna Occidentale was first ascended in 1857 by engineer Tonini, and Levanna Centrale was first ascended on August 17, 1875, by A. Gramaglia and L. Vaccarone.
To access the starting point, follow the route: Torino - Lanzo - Cantoira - Chialamberto - Pialpetta - Groscavallo - Forno Alpi Graie.
From the main square in Forno, follow the road that becomes unpaved and crosses the Gura stream via a bridge. After crossing, turn right onto a wide mule track that follows the right side of the river. The large boulders encountered along the way are remnants of the massive landslide that occurred in September '93.
Initially, the path is almost flat, but soon you will reach a left turn towards Rifugio Daviso. From this point, trail number 315 begins to ascend, zigzagging up the slope covered with low vegetation. After gaining some altitude, the trail levels out briefly until you reach a large boulder with a wooden sign pointing to Daviso.
From here, you will quickly reach a group of old alpine pastures at an elevation of 1670 meters. The trail continues to an isolated building with a sign for Daviso. A few hundred meters of further ascent will bring you to the Gura plateau, where several streams converge. Continue to an alpine pasture and the small Lago della Gura at 1827 meters.
