Description
The launch site at Porta-Westfalica, Germany, has an elevation of 230 meters and a height difference of 180 meters. It is frequently used and offers good cross-country (XC) potential. Originally designed for hang gliders (HG), it has recently seen an increase in paragliding (PG) activity. The local club has become more accommodating to paragliders over the years, and it may become an excellent launch site for PG in the future.
The region is Porta-Westfalica in Germany. The site record for distance is 226.0 km. For more information, you can visit the following links:

Flying is permitted on weekends and holidays only with a launch director present, starting at 10 AM during summer and 11 AM during winter. Transportation to the launch site is organized in group shuttles; individual drivers are not allowed to start. The meeting point for carpooling is the landing field. The landing field, approximately 350 meters long, is also approved for ultralight (UL) towing, with a ready-to-use UL tow plane available in the hangar. Guests traveling from afar can stay overnight for free in the clubhouse at the landing field. A stationary barbecue area is available for socializing with fellow pilots.
Instructions from the launch director must be followed. After unloading, cars must be moved from the parking area to either the landing field or an alternative parking spot 300 meters below the ramp. Individual trips should be avoided, and carpooling is encouraged. Setting up on the concrete area is prohibited; setup should always be on the grass to the right of the ramp. It is essential not to disrupt the local hospitality business, as we are under close observation by the owner and must adhere to their guidelines.
We welcome many guests when the wind direction is between 170° and 230° and speeds are between 15 and 35 km/h.
The HG site at Wiehengebirge is suitable for cross-country flying year-round. Even in winter, flights of up to 80 km have been achieved. If the wind conditions are not favorable for ridge launches at Wittekindsburg, we use UL towing from our landing field or one of the many other flying sites in the area.
The launch ramp, oriented at 200° with a flyable sector of 170° – 240°, is approximately 196 meters above the landing field by the Weser River.
On weekends and holidays, a launch director is present from 10 AM in summer and 11 AM in winter if the weather is suitable for flying. The meeting point for the group ride to the launch site is the landing field, and individual drivers are not permitted to start.
