Best Conditions
Description
Located in Sant' Andrea in Monte, Italy, this paragliding site offers a launch altitude of 2054 meters with a height difference of 1400 meters. It is a medium-difficulty site, regularly used from May to September. Winter flights are not possible due to the ski slopes.
The site is known for its potential for cross-country flights, with the best conditions typically found in the morning and late afternoon when thermals are more manageable. Avoid flying during north and east wind conditions due to potential rotor effects in the forested areas near the launch sites.
The area is ideal for west wind conditions and can handle light north winds at higher altitudes. However, it is not suitable for east winds, Föhn winds, or when a front is approaching, as valley winds can become strong after 14:00.
There are several launch sites available:
1. Trametsch Ski Slope at 2055 meters (46°41.263'N 11°42.720'E), located 3 minutes north of the cable car mountain station in the forest.
2. Schönjöchl at 2301 meters (46°41.435'N 11°43.735'E), accessible in about 20 minutes from the cable car. This site offers launches in all directions and is situated on a hill with meadows.
3. Telegraf at 2474 meters (46°42.127'N 11°43.735'E), suitable for launches to the south, southwest, west, and northwest. This large launch area is accessible by terrain vehicle and has a nearby shelter.
For cross-country flights, the route to Marmolada is notable. Achieving a good initial altitude is crucial for crossing the northern peaks, with thermals primarily on the southern slopes. The Plose area serves as an excellent thermal spot, especially for large triangular flights originating from Speikboden.
Local thermal flights or west wind soaring flights offer stunning views of the Dolomites to the south. Access to the takeoff points is possible by car or cable car.
