Located in the Trentino-Südtirol region of Italy, this paragliding site offers an elevation range of 1498-1521 meters with a height difference of 500 meters, making it an easy and frequently used spot, especially for soaring throughout the year. While cross-country flights are possible, the takeoff is relatively low.
The site is known for its beautiful and straightforward flying conditions. In the afternoons and evenings, you can often enjoy fantastic soaring flights, especially in the scenic west-facing bowl. Even with a light north wind, flying is usually still possible due to some wind protection. However, flying is not advisable during Föhn conditions.
The area often hosts training operations, and it's crucial to land at the designated official landing zone to avoid conflicts with local farmers. Access to the site involves driving from Nauders towards Annaberg. After a left turn, there is a small parking area on the left side, from where you walk down to the takeoff spot. For first-time visitors, it's recommended to contact one of the local flight schools, as they might offer a ride up.
A notable mini cross-country flight involves taking off from the Gitschberg peak, gaining altitude, and landing in Mühlbach or Vintl. If you land in Nauders, you will need to arrange for pickup. The site features a large west-facing bowl, ideal for soaring and thermal flights in the afternoon, although the landing area is relatively small. Access is via cable car or road.

If you ask politely, flight school buses often give rides up to the takeoff point, but you should be ready to start by 11:00 AM, as the buses stop running after the flight students finish. Parking is available on the dirt road next to the landing area near the bus stop.
The takeoff area is a simple inclined meadow with increasing slope, making it easy to start and suitable for beginners. There is also an alternative takeoff spot with a moderate slope if the main area is occupied by flight students. Wind direction is clearly marked with flutter tape at various points.
This site serves as an alternative to the Lüsen takeoff spot. The takeoff is easily accessible from the road above via a small forest path, with parking available in a nearby bay for up to three cars. Flight schools frequently offer rides up, often free of charge.
The landing area is not directly visible from the takeoff but becomes apparent after about 30 seconds of flight in the S-W direction. Thermals typically start around 11 AM, with the main thermal located in the SSO direction, often marked by birds. Soaring is possible into the late evening under the right wind conditions. The site offers a range of flying experiences from simple glides to cross-country flights, depending on thermal conditions. Orientation is straightforward using the mountain ridges and villages, and landing options are moderate even in challenging conditions. The area is not overly crowded, with some activity from flight schools in the mornings and evenings.
Pilots often meet at the landing area, where you have the best chance of catching a shuttle. For après-flying, local gastronomy is available, with pilots frequently gathering at Untergopprat Hof in Nauders for a drink or at the pizzeria in Mühlbach. Accommodations in the area are good, with moderate prices and excellent cuisine.
