Description
The Klöntal area offers a unique paragliding experience, though it is rarely used and not particularly relevant for most pilots. The access and launch points are challenging, making it suitable for experienced hike & fly enthusiasts who are comfortable navigating difficult terrain.
During the summer, Klöntal is accessible by PostAuto buses from Glarus, with the final stop at Richisau. The road runs along the left side of the lake but is not safe for winter travel. The Pragel Pass, which is only open to bicycles on weekends, connects Klöntal with Muotatal.
Around Klöntalersee, there are various launch sites for those who prefer to start directly in thermal currents and are adept at mountain hiking. In the early days of paragliding, this area was actively flown, and the lake was sometimes used for water landings.
**Flight Routes:**
- **Dejenstock:** Launch from the meadow below the summit, which is quite steep with cliffs below. Fly down to the lake, to Güntlenau on the opposite side, or to Vorauen at the upper end of Klöntalersee. An even better option is to fly into Glarnerland.
- **Ochsenkopf:** Similar launch conditions to Dejenstock, with flights possible to Vorauen or Glarnerland.
- **Näbelchäppler:** Fly to Klöntalersee (Vorauen or Güntlenau) or into Glarnerland.
**Difficulty:**
Landing options in Klöntal are quite limited. Pilots should aim to fly out to Glarnerland whenever possible for safer landing opportunities.
