Description
The launch site is at an elevation of 753 meters with a height difference of 680 meters, making it an easy spot for paragliding. This location is occasionally used for local soaring, followed by a glide to the landing zone (LZ).
Due to increased air traffic in the CYA135 and CYA113 areas, it is recommended that one pilot in the group contact the 443 Squadron Flight Operations Centre before and after flying. They often use the old mill site at Youbou for training purposes. It is also suggested to announce your intent to fly via air-band radio on 123.025 MHz and monitor this frequency during the flight.
While these precautions are not mandatory, it is important to remember that any close interaction between powered and unpowered aircraft can be dangerous for the unpowered aircraft, regardless of right-of-way.
You can reach the 443 Squadron Flight Ops Centre by phone at 250-363-5443 ext. 51081 or by email at W12443-OPS@forces.gc.ca. For more details, visit [Island Soaring](https://www.islandsoaring.org/post/cowichan-valley-airspace-caution).
