Description
Monte Pizzoc, standing at 1565 meters, offers a unique flying experience primarily for hang gliders, with occasional paragliding activity. The launch site, known as 'Pizzoc,' is situated in a private area, so it's essential to follow local rules and seek permission from locals or the property owner.
To reach Monte Pizzoc, take the state road 422 from Cansiglio, accessible via Vittorio Veneto, passing through Fregona and the Crosetta pass, continuing towards Pian Cansiglio. At the bridge, turn left and follow the road through beech forests until you reach the summit, where you'll find several mountain huts.
The launch area provides a 360° panoramic view. To the south, the slopes descend rapidly towards Fregona, Vittorio Veneto, and the Venetian plain, with the Venice lagoon visible on clear days. To the east, you can see the Friulian plain, and occasionally, Trieste and the Istrian coast. The northeast offers views of the Monte Cavallo group, while the north reveals the Alpago basin and the Dolomite peaks beyond. To the west, you'll find the Val Latesina with the Sella del Fadalto, and to the southwest, the Revine lakes, Monte Pian delle Femmene, Monte Cesen, and the Feltrine peaks.
Monte Pizzoc is a popular destination for tourists who explore the area on foot, mountain bike, or horseback along marked trails. Near the summit, there are numerous huts where you can purchase local ricotta and cheeses.
