Description
Monte Dolada, Italy
Elevation: 1490 meters
Height Difference: 890 meters
Difficulty: Medium
This site is very popular and frequently visited by paragliders. It offers excellent soaring conditions and good potential for cross-country (XC) flights. Toplanding is possible. You can access the site by car, followed by a 5-10 minute walk.
Flights from this location are well-regarded, with a site record of 95.4 km. The take-off area is located at Rifugio Dolada, where both hang gliders (HG) and paragliders (PG) can start. There are additional paragliding start options further up the slope.
To get there, drive from Pieve d’Alpago to Rifugio Dolada. Hang gliders can drive up to the Rifugio to unload, while others should park at the designated parking area before the Rifugio.
The Alpago region is known for its strong thermals, making it ideal for both short and long flights over the mountains. Beginners can enjoy gliding down to various landing points below. Competitions and high-level demonstrations are often held in these skies.
Monte Dolada is particularly attractive due to its height difference of around 1500 meters, depending on the start point. For pilots flying from Feltre or Fonzaso over Monte Avena, it serves as a key waypoint, toplanding spot, and turnaround point on thermally active days.
The Rifugio at the take-off site offers affordable meals and drinks on weekends, and you can also stay overnight for a reasonable price. Alternatively, the campsite at Lago de Croze is recommended.
When flying towards Feltre, stay to the right of the main road that winds through the valley to avoid the local airfield near Belluno. If you need to fly through their airspace, contact the airfield using the phone number provided on a sign at the start point.
Local pilots are usually present on weekends to offer guidance.
Take-off: Grass, steeply sloping, typically with face wind.
