Description
Located in the Bern region of Switzerland, the Möntschelealp is a popular paragliding site known for its excellent soaring conditions, especially during Bise winds. The launch site is situated at an altitude of 1410 meters and faces north-east, making it ideal for catching the wind. The take-off area is a steep meadow, which is easy to launch from, even for beginners.
Access to the Möntschelealp is restricted to private vehicles, but the local paragliding club, Para-Deltaclub Stockhorn, operates a bus service from the landing zone in Blumenstein. The bus ride takes you up a mountain road to the launch site. The parking at Möntschelealp is paid, but you can park for free at the landing zone in Blumenstein.
The landing zone is located above a farmhouse in a forest clearing. While it is slightly uneven and sloping, it is generally easy to land on. However, during strong Bise winds, rotor turbulence can occur near the tree line, so an alternative landing field on a large open meadow below the official landing zone is recommended. Avoid landing in unmown fields.

The area offers a significant altitude difference of 700 meters, providing ample time for soaring. On good weather days, cross-country flights are also possible. The site is about a 20-minute drive from Bern, making it easily accessible.
Before launching, always check if the nearby shooting range is in operation. The official landing zone is located above the farmhouse in a forest clearing. Guest pilots are required to pay a start/landing fee of CHF 2, which is included in the transport fee or can be paid at the landing zone. For safety reasons, during strong Bise/North winds, it is advised to use the official alternative landing zone.
