Description

Meadow Mountain Lower Launch is located in Meadow Creek, British Columbia. This site offers both paragliding and hang gliding opportunities, with a lower launch elevation of 3,150 feet above sea level and an upper launch elevation of 8,000 feet above sea level. The landing zone (LZ) is at 1,900 feet above sea level. The site is suitable for ridge and thermal flying, with high flights possible. The launch directions are straightforward: head north from Kaslo on Highway 31, turn left at the Meadow Creek Pub, and follow the directions to either the lower or upper launch. The lower launch is accessible by any vehicle, while the upper launch requires a high-clearance 4WD for the last section. The upper launch is gated at the 4,000-foot level, and you will need to contact Allan Drury for the key. From there, it's a 700-foot vertical hike to the launch area. The lower launch is drive-in accessible. The flying season is rated highly in spring, summer, and fall, with moderate conditions in winter due to snow. The site is informal in terms of regulation, and insurance through HPAC or USHPA is required. For landing, you can use the area at Allan Drury's property, just southwest of the Meadow Creek Pub, or the large field immediately south of his property. Additional attractions include the Lardeau River Kokanee spawning grounds, where up to 30 million Kokanee spawn from late August through September. Camping is available at Glacier Creek Campground on Duncan Lake, and the north end of Kootenay Lake offers a 2 km long beach with excellent boat access and world-class fishing.
