Description
Maketu is a soaring site with no recorded flight logs. The wind direction suitable for flying ranges from 280° to 350°.
For landing, you can top land but be cautious of the rotor when the wind is straight in. Alternatively, you can perform a cross-wind landing on the beach below and to the south. Note that there is limited or no beach area for landing to the north.
This site is managed by the Bay of Plenty Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club, also known as the Tauranga Club.
To get there, park on the road well clear of any driveway entrance. You may drive a load of gear to the top of the driveway to unload it, but then you must park the car back on the road. The property is private, and the owners' house is at the top of the long driveway on the left. It is crucial to telephone Barry beforehand as this is an important site for the Tauranga Club, and any misbehavior could jeopardize access for everyone.
