Best Conditions
Description
This site is rarely used and is considered difficult, suitable for experienced pilots only. Coastal cross-country flights are possible, with various takeoff options available.
Type of Flight: Thermodynamic and coastal.
Orientation: North.
Takeoff: There are two alternatives; one from the Atalaya de Laredo and another from some meadows further east (near some antennas).
Landing: You can land on the beaches of Castro or wherever the thermals take you, keeping in mind the retrieval logistics.
Difficulty: This site is not for beginners. It is a committed flight, and pilots must evaluate the conditions on-site and make their own decisions.
How to Get There: Take the Santander - Bilbao highway and exit at Somo.
The Flight: This is a dynamic flight with the possibility of marine thermals in the first section and terrestrial thermals in the second section. Experience is required, as in many sections, the only landing option if you make a mistake is the sea, with no access from land due to cliffs. Therefore, you must avoid landing short at all costs.
Access: From Laredo town, head to the Repsol gas station and follow the direction towards Bilbao on the N634. At kilometer marker 167.85, turn left at the old curve, then left again after the bus stop. Continue to the highest point where there is a small hut and parking area. If in doubt, follow the AT line, which ends at a transformer.
