Description
Located in Spain, this paragliding site offers a launch altitude of 1048 meters with a height difference of 708 meters. It is an easy site, regularly used, and known for its beautiful scenery. The site is particularly good for cross-country flights along the eastbound ridge. The grassy launch area provides various takeoff possibilities in directions ranging from Northwest to East.
The official landing zone is situated near a reservoir. When the water level is low, multiple landing options become available. If the reservoir is high, aim for the official landing zone, keeping the road that borders the reservoir to your right. There is a cabin near the landing area, which is typically used for bird watching. Additionally, there is an option to land at the top.
The flight between Kurtzebarri and Aloña is exceptionally scenic. Midway, there is a peak called Orkatzategi where a thermal often forms, aiding in the journey. The coordinates for this thermal point are latitude 43.011 and longitude -2.456, with an altitude of 780 meters.
Access to the site is via Mondragon, 71 km from San Sebastián. Continue on the C-6213 for 4 km to Aretxabaleta. From there, take the road to the Mendiola neighborhood (GI-3345). At the top, you will reach an intersection with a small statue. Follow the cement track until you see a stone track branching off to the left, suitable only for 4x4 vehicles. Note that landing in any field is not permitted, especially when the grass is tall, which coincides with the flying season. The maximum elevation difference is 750 meters.
