The site record is 70.6 km. The launch area is directly at the mountain station of the Hof drag lift, with a wind turbine located 100 meters northwest.
Transport options include a shuttle bus directly to the start point (special permit required). For private transport, drive from the landing site in Kastel uphill through Ittenschwand to the hiking parking lot at the Tannenboden grill hut. From the barrier sign, continue on foot for 30 minutes to cover the remaining 250 meters in altitude. Follow the initially paved path, keep right where the pavement ends, and take the next left at the fork.
Special features and hazards include several obstacles at the start (lift, light mast, antenna mast, fence). Ensure the path below the flat southeast start is clear. No northeast starts during ski operations. Avoid the wind turbine on the northeast side during soaring. If unable to safely overfly the large overhead power line towards the main landing site in Kastel, aim for the intermediate landing site at Hof between the ski lift and grill huts.
The best time to fly is between 10:30 and 11:30 AM. The site is located in the High Black Forest, southwest of Feldberg, along Federal Highway 371, and is suitable for all wind directions up to a height difference of 500 meters. There are no special airspace restrictions and no excessively strong valley winds. However, be cautious of high-voltage power lines near the landing site.
Guest pilots are welcome, and annual passes are available at the shuttle bus (as of 2015: €10/year). Please carry the pass visibly and present it upon request. The club's shuttle bus operates to the start point on weekends from early April to late October, with the first trip departing from Fröhnd-Kastel Town Hall at 10:30 AM.
