Description
Green Point, located in the Midwest USA, is a popular paragliding site on the east coast of Lake Michigan. The site features a west-facing dune that stands 375 feet above sea level, making it the best ridge site on Lake Michigan. The Green Point Flyers Association (GPFA) owns several prime acres south of Frankfort, which include amenities such as camping (for a nominal fee), a setup area for multiple gliders, and stairs leading up to a wooden ramp 370 feet above the beach.
Paragliders launch from a sandy, wide area atop the dune ridge, 370 feet above the lake and beach. The main ridge is 2 miles long and works best with a generally west wind. Lake thermals are not uncommon, and some pilots have reached altitudes of 4000 feet over the launch site. The site record is 11.4 km.
Top landing is possible, or you can land on the beach. The landing zone (LZ) is the Lake Michigan beach, which stretches over 2 miles, and there is also a top landing meadow.
