Best Conditions
Description
Located in Nord-Trøndelag, Norway, this paragliding site offers a takeoff height of approximately 585 meters. The main takeoff orientation is towards the north, making it a frequently used spot for soaring. The site is known for its favorable conditions, especially with wind directions from the south, southwest, west, northwest, and occasionally north with a slight eastern component. The southern takeoff (S-SE) is reserved for pilots with PP3/SP3 certification or higher.
Access to the takeoff is convenient as there is a road leading directly to the top, making it an attractive mountain for paragliders. The best soaring conditions are typically found with wind speeds of 4-5 m/s in the mentioned directions. Thermals are particularly good during the spring and summer months. However, the road is closed during winter, requiring a long walk to reach the takeoff point.
For landing, there is a clubhouse near the landing field. To reach the landing area from the south, follow the E6 north past Stjørdal center. After approximately 6 km, you will see a church on the right side. Continue for another 200 meters until you see a sign for "Forbord." Turn right onto the gravel road, then take another right where the road splits. Continue for 50-60 meters until you see the red clubhouse with a windsock at the landing field.
To access the mountain, take the turn at the previously mentioned church and follow the church fence. Stop to pay the toll fee (20 NOK) and follow the road to the top, which is about 4.5 km.
Before flying, it is mandatory to contact a member of the Stjørdal club due to restrictions around Værnes. There are height and area limitations, typically 3000 feet and a designated area 1.
