Description

Located in the Lisbon region of Portugal, this paragliding site is highly frequented and offers excellent soaring conditions. The takeoff point is situated at an altitude of 55 meters with a flight path extending up to 10,000 meters, making it an easy and accessible spot for pilots. The site is known for its superb coastal cross-country (XC) potential. The primary takeoff is near the NATO military area, adjacent to a viewpoint protected by logs. Although the takeoff area is small, it is well-suited for launching. Pilots should be cautious of southwest quadrant winds, which can create rotors and complicate inflation. For strong winds and instructional purposes, there is a lower takeoff point at 30 meters that is excellent. The site is dynamic, offering approximately 14 kilometers of ridge soaring. However, it is quite popular, often hosting 30 to 40 wings at a time, with several schools operating in the area. For directions, from Almada, take the highway towards Costa da Caparica. After 4 kilometers, turn right following the signs to Fonte da Telha. Continue straight on the road marked with a no-entry sign (towards the NATO installations) until you see a viewpoint on the right next to the cliff. The takeoff is at this viewpoint.
