Description
Located near the Berghotel Faulhorn in Switzerland, this paragliding site offers a unique experience at an elevation of 2680 meters. The site is moderately challenging and is best suited for pilots with some experience.
The hike to the take-off point takes approximately 2.5 hours. You can start your journey from Grindelwald by taking the gondola to First, followed by a 2.5-hour hike along the trail towards Faulhorn. There are two main take-off areas: one directly below the Faulhorn restaurant, which is steep and somewhat rocky, and another 250 meters lower on the Gassenboden, which is larger and flatter but also rocky.
The take-off directions vary: from the restaurant, you launch towards the south (Eigernorwand), often encountering a light side wind from the right. From the Gassenboden, you can launch towards the southwest or west, with the wind typically coming from these directions.
Thermal activity usually starts around 10:00 AM, making it ideal for flights from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The southwest flank of the Retihorn often provides good thermals. The site is generally flyable in all normal weather conditions, though side winds can be an issue, especially with west winds and strong thermals. Late summer and autumn are particularly good times to fly here.
The use of the site is free, and it is managed by the local club Jungfrau Tächi.
