The Ehrsberg Köpfle launch site, located in the Wiesental region of Germany, offers a variety of paragliding experiences. With an elevation of 897 meters and a height difference of 356 meters, this site is frequently used for soaring and thermal flying, with occasional opportunities for cross-country flights. However, top landings above the launch site are not permitted, so it's best to consult with local pilots for guidance.
The best time to fly here is during the summer, particularly for south to west launches after 3:00 PM. North launches are especially suitable for soaring. The launch directions include South, Southwest, West, Northwest, and North.
The site is accessible via a shuttle bus directly to the launch area, thanks to a special permit. For those driving, from the landing site in Kastel, take a right onto the B317, then turn left after approximately 400 meters and follow the road through Wühre to Ehrsberg. At the village fountain, turn left and follow the road out of the village, then turn left again after about 600 meters to park in the former quarry directly below the launch site. The remaining 25 meters of elevation can be covered on foot via a path on the right side of the quarry. Be careful not to damage the pasture fence when crossing it.
Special considerations include avoiding disturbance to cattle at the launch site. There is a barely visible wire about 5 meters above the ground approximately 100 meters in the flight direction towards Kastel, and a prominent power line halfway along the route. In case of emergency, landing on the slope above is possible.
The launch site is situated on a picturesque plateau between the Feldberg in the Black Forest and Basel in Switzerland, offering additional recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and swimming. An A-license is required to fly here. The height difference is around 390 meters. Guest pilots can launch in the presence of a club member, provided the flight operations allow it, with a maximum of 15 pilots per day.
