Description
The launch site is located at an altitude of 1741 meters with a height difference of 1100 meters. It is occasionally used and offers soaring and cross-country (XC) flying possibilities. The main launch direction is south, and there is also a north/northwest launch option, though it is less relevant.
After takeoff, most pilots turn immediately left towards the valley. There are no landing options directly below the launch site. The recommended landing area is in Chioso, which is located near the parking area of the Scopello campsite. Be cautious of the high-tension power lines near the landing zone, which is adjacent to the Sesia River.
Access to the launch site is straightforward. You can reach it by car from Scopello by following signs to Alpe di Mera or by taking a chairlift. From the chairlift, there is a 20-minute walk to the launch site, or a 25-minute walk if you drive to the end of the road.
Favorable flying conditions require light north winds. The takeoff and landing areas are not difficult to navigate.
