Description
Góra Róg, standing at 715 meters, is situated in the north-western part of the Stołowe Mountains, approximately 2 km from Chełmsko Śląski. The site features a pine-covered ridge with two parallel clearings on the south-western slope, descending towards Chełmsko. Launches are conducted from the southern clearing. To reach the site, follow the asphalt road through the forest from Chełmsko towards Mieroszów. At the top of the pass between Chełmskie and the village of Łączna, you will find a widened roadside area on the left where you can park your car. From there, several forest roads and hiking trails lead to the take-off point, which is a 10-15 minute walk north into the forest.
There is also a winding forest path, but vehicle access is prohibited. The local authorities strictly enforce this rule, and violators have faced fines.
The launch area is relatively small and steep, accommodating at most two gliders. The take-off direction is 250 degrees. The mountain is less than 100 meters high, and pilots often need to stay close to the slope immediately after take-off. Be cautious of wind deviations, especially from the west, as rotors can form, making flying near the forest challenging.
With favorable winds, you can enjoy smooth soaring with views of the distinctive Kralovecky Szpicak in front and Krowarya in Mieroszów behind. Chełmsko often serves as an excellent alternative to Mieroszów, especially when the latter experiences strong sunset winds. The thermals over the meadows between the mountain and Chełmskie can provide good lift for extended flights. If not, you can land in the expansive meadows at the foot of the mountain. However, be mindful of grazing horses in some meadows, as landing near them is strictly prohibited due to safety concerns.
