Description
Located in the Piemonte region of Italy, this paragliding site offers a takeoff altitude of 1510 meters with a height difference ranging from 520 to 1000 meters. It is a less frequently used site, but it does offer some soaring opportunities and the potential for cross-country (XC) flights.
The site record stands at 18.3 km. During spring, strong winds are common, and a significant slope breeze often develops. Thermal flying is possible, but turbulence is frequent. It is advised not to take off if wind speeds exceed 20 km/h. The landing zone becomes visible after approximately 60% of the flight.
The weather in this area is unique due to the high mountains that separate the sea (30 km away) from the Po Valley. Dominant north/south winds can be very strong. The terrain, with successive ridges perpendicular to the winds, creates extensive lee-side rotor zones. Constant attention to wind direction and intensity is necessary, as conditions can vary significantly between takeoff and landing.
To reach the takeoff point, you can drive from Cabella to Pobbio and then continue on a dirt road for a total of about 40 minutes (off-road vehicle recommended). Alternatively, you can drive for 35 minutes and then walk for 20 minutes.
