Description
The paragliding site at Bergün, Switzerland, offers an elevation of 2280 meters and is considered easy to fly. It is regularly used and provides beautiful flights, although it is not known for long-distance routes. The main launch site is located here.
The region of Bergün, including the hamlets of Latsch, Stuls, and Preda, is characterized by its Engadine architectural style and stunning mountain setting. Bergün is situated at the base of the Albula Pass at an altitude of 1376 meters above sea level.
To the east, you have the Albula Pass leading towards Engadin and St. Moritz. To the south, the Ela Mountains stretch towards Julier Pass and Savognin. The west opens up towards Alvaneu, Lenzerheide, and further to Chur and Arosa. To the north, the Kesch area connects to Davos and Klosters, which in turn links back to Engadin.
This area is an excellent flying region. In winter, you can take the lift up to Alp Darlux. From there, it's a short walk to the prepared launch site where you can lay out and inflate your wing. The thermals are reliable, making it easy even for less experienced pilots to gain altitude. Crossing the valley is manageable with modern gliders.
The launch at Alp Darlux is on a prepared site with a wind indicator (ribbon) facing roughly south-southwest. If the wind is not favorable, a short wait will usually bring the next thermal bubble. You will fly along the slope towards Bergün, typically gaining significant altitude above the launch height.
Landing is near the base station of the lift. You can soar to the right of the launch area towards Bergün, and even on the opposite side of the valley (north), you have good chances of finding thermals, even in winter.
The area is well-serviced with:
- 2 chairlifts
- 4 ski lifts
- Albula Railway
