Mezoke Dragot Dead Sea

Paragliding map of
This paragliding site is located in the Dead Sea region of Israel. The launch site is a steep slope in the desert, situated over the Dead Sea, and spans 10 km. It is considered one of the most challenging and possibly the lowest flying site on Earth. The site is open to all pilots without any usage fees. Due to the demanding nature of the terrain, pilots must have full control over forward launches while running and be able to handle turbulent conditions. The ideal wind speed for launching is between 10-25 km/h. Do not attempt to launch if gusts exceed 10 km/h. Flying is possible year-round during the morning hours in summer and on sunny days, when thermals from the rocky desert cliffs and a light breeze from the Dead Sea are present. There is a regional west wind, but on days with east wind, the wind comes from the north, making launching impossible. At the end of the launch site, there is a vertical drop of 100 meters. The wind is usually too weak for reverse launches. Lay out and launch as far from the edge as possible. The wind is predominantly thermal and unstable, with rapid changes in direction and strength, increasing the risk of collapses. Always maintain a safe distance from the cliffs due to the risk of sudden altitude loss. Soaring in ridge lift is not possible here. Avoid flying into the canyons. When flying north, always be aware of landing options, as some areas between the Dead Sea and the road are too narrow or steep. There are no landing possibilities at the Einot Tzukim Nature Reserve in the northern section of the Dead Sea coast. Before flying, pilots must notify the military by phone at 02-9940218. The landing area is not specifically marked. Land on flat areas between the Dead Sea and Route 90. Avoid flying too low over the road, as trucks and buses can cause turbulence. Be cautious of the high-voltage power lines and aim to land north of the last power line mast (end of the line). Top landings are possible, but be careful of rotor effects when the wind has a northern component.
