Goat Mountain, located in the USA, offers a unique paragliding experience, particularly for those interested in hike & fly and cross-country (XC) flying. This site is remote and deep in the mountains, making it less frequented by pilots. The launch altitude is 1427 meters with a height difference of approximately 500 meters. The main landing zone (LZ) is a large, grassy field, but it requires a 6.5-1 glide ratio, making it unsuitable for inexperienced pilots. There is also a 3.5-1 bail-out LZ, but it is challenging to land in. One notable feature of Goat Mountain is the frequent convergence over the launch area, which can be advantageous for XC flights. To reach Goat Mountain from Hollister, take Highway 25 for 40 miles and turn left onto Coalinga Road. The turnoff is a 90-degree right turn and can be easy to miss, so keep an eye on the distance. Continue on Coalinga Road for 18 miles until you reach the LZ, a large fenced-in field on the right with parking available along the side. To get to the launch site, go back about half a mile along Coalinga Road, turn right into Clear Creek Park, cross the stream, and follow the bike trail. Given that this is a relatively new site, it is crucial to get an introduction from a knowledgeable pilot before flying. Maintaining a positive relationship with the local community is essential.
