The Niesen, a pyramid-shaped mountain, stands prominently in the Bernese landscape. From the historic little train station, its 2362 meters of elevation make a striking impression. At the summit, you'll find the ideal south-facing launch site, along with more challenging alternatives. On clear days, the view extends to the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, as well as the mountains of the French Alps. This is a fantastic flying mountain with reliable thermals. Flight Reliable updrafts, especially in the morning, ensure long flights. To the southwest, the Albristhorn awaits. For beginners, simple flights to 'Schwandegg' or into the Frutigtal are recommended. In recent years, the Niesen has become a starting point for impressive cross-country flights, such as over the main Alpine ridge into the Valais and then towards Furka. Difficulty It's advisable to check the wind at the platform (the highest point of the Niesen). Lee winds can be dangerous here. The Niesen launch site is not recommended in north wind conditions and/or strong winds. Never launch with north to east winds. In summer, expect strong thermal updrafts at the launch sites. The landing site in Mülenen is located in an 'enclave' of the restricted area of the Reichenbach airfield. It is crucial to observe this restriction (see information boards at the valley station and the summit). Niesenbahn: operates almost always.
