Surf Tunnels

Tunnels - North Shore, Hawaii Tunnels features powerful, hollow waves breaking over a sharp coral reef. This spot is accessible via a short walk (<5 min) from the main road, but be prepared for a challenging paddle. It works at all tides, with optimal conditions during rising and falling tides, and is best suited for experienced surfers. Located just before the Prince Kuhio Hwy ends at the Na Pali Coast, Tunnels is known for its localized conditions and can feel sharky. The wave predominantly breaks to the right, handling swells from the North-West and North-East effectively. While it can get crowded, it’s less packed than nearby Hanalei, allowing for some spread among surfers. Respecting locals is crucial due to the competitive vibe. The pristine area can be affected by heavy rain, impacting conditions temporarily. Ideal seasons for surfing Tunnels are winter, spring, and autumn, with shortboards and bodyboards recommended for optimal performance.
