Description
Sand Spit (Little Brother) - Port San Luis
Sand Spit features a right-breaking sandbar wave with a sandy bottom, known for its hollow, fast, and powerful characteristics. This spot is best surfed during low to mid tide with rising tide conditions, primarily under swells from the west to southeast. It is accessible via the Port San Luis Boat Yard lot, with instant access within five minutes.
This fickle wave breaks infrequently, only on the biggest swells of the year, making it a rare gem for surfers. When conditions align, it can produce long, perfect tubes reminiscent of its more famous counterpart in Santa Barbara. The ideal swell direction is between 160° and 180°, with double overhead swells potentially yielding head-high waves. Despite its allure, surfers should be cautious of rocks, pollution, and the presence of sharks. The crowd is generally sparse during the week and weekends, allowing for a more enjoyable session.
