Description
Muriwai Beach - New Zealand
Muriwai Beach features a sandy beach break with both right and left waves, ideal for 0.6 to 1.2-meter swells. The beach is best surfed at mid tide and works at all tides, with conditions becoming challenging at 2.4 to 2.4 meters when it starts to close out. Rips and undertows are present, making caution essential.
Located on the west coast near Auckland, Muriwai Beach is renowned for its scenic beauty, including gannet and seal colonies. The beach is easily accessible with ample parking and facilities, attracting crowds, especially on weekends. While the surf can be rippy and blown out, surfers often seek more defined peaks at nearby Maori Bay when conditions are favorable. For smaller swells, heading north towards Rimmer Rd can yield better waves. Always check local conditions, as they can change rapidly, and be mindful of the potential dangers, including rips and sharks.
