This spot is best accessed between 6th and 10th streets near Balboa Pier, with a short walk of 5-15 minutes. It works primarily during low to mid tide with rising tide conditions, requiring a significant south swell for optimal performance. Known for its quiet atmosphere, Middles offers a unique surfing experience, often enjoyed with just a few friends. It typically breaks only a few times a year, becoming unruly at heights over 3 meters. The wave's shallow nature makes it distinct from other local spots, providing a thrilling challenge for experienced surfers. Be cautious of rips and undertow, and expect to share the lineup with minimal crowds during the week and weekends. Ideal months for surfing here are September and October, when conditions align for the best rides.
