Malpaso - Chicama, Peru
Malpaso features a left-point break with a sandy bottom interspersed with rocks, producing powerful to ordinary waves ranging from 1.2 to 3 meters. This spot is located at the extreme outermost point of the long Cape at Chicama, accessible via a 45-minute walk or a cab ride followed by a short walk.
The experience at Malpaso is unique, offering one of the longest rides you may encounter, stretching approximately 4 kilometers back to town. On big days, surfers can enjoy a series of waves, starting with a sucky takeoff next to the rocks, followed by a fat section that runs for about 200 meters. As you drift down the cape, you can pick off additional waves, with notable points like Keys and Chicama along the way. The area remains uncrowded throughout the week, making it an ideal spot for those seeking solitude. However, be cautious of the rocks and the need to straighten out before reaching the town pier.
