Description

Located in Portugal, this paragliding site is rarely used and known for dynamic soaring. The takeoff altitude is 1055 meters with a vertical drop of approximately 350 meters, depending on the landing area. The site is oriented northwest, ideally between 290º and 330º. Nearby villages include Lagoa (close to the takeoff), Barbadães de Cima, and Barbadães de Baixo (landing zones). Access is straightforward and suitable for any vehicle, with part of the route on a dirt road. The walk to the takeoff point is about 300 meters on flat terrain. This site is suitable for various types of flights, with a preference for winds from the north rather than the west to avoid rotors near the landing area. In winter, it offers surprisingly pleasant thermal activity, with the best flying times being from mid-afternoon onwards. During summer, the wind accelerates between 2 PM and 4 PM due to the influence of the sea breeze and the sun on the slope, so caution is advised. When landing, be mindful of electrical and telephone wires near the villages. On thermal days, landing can be challenging due to strong activity near the villages. This location is excellent for cross-country flights towards the east or southeast. There is also the possibility of flying from the highest point of Serra da Padrela to the village of Valoura, offering a beautiful flight with a 600-meter vertical drop.
