Description
The takeoff is located on the mountain ridge north of Tirhmi, near a visible mast from the town. The main takeoff point is about 100 meters east of the junction in the track at the top of the ridge, near a small village.
Landing is flexible in the valley, but it's crucial to identify power lines before heading up the mountain. During the heat of the day, the air close to the ground can become turbulent, requiring extra caution when landing.
To get there, Tirhmi is situated on the road between Tiznit and Tafraoute. Access the site via a track on the east side of Tirhmi. From Tiznit, pass through Tirhmi and turn left onto a track marked by a white concrete block. A two-wheel-drive car with reasonable ground clearance can navigate the track, though the gradient is steep in parts. It takes about 45 minutes from Tiznit to Tirhmi center, and another 20 minutes to drive up the ridge to the takeoff point.
The site faces approximately south, with some parts facing more southwest. It is suitable for soaring the ridge in the right conditions but is better for thermal flying over the valley in the afternoon. Restitution can be found over the valley at the end of hot days.
Be aware that wind direction can change quickly on the ridge when thermals start to work, so monitor conditions carefully when launching. There are no known flight regulations for this site.
Local flyers are based on the coast on the other side of Tiznit, but there are no regular flyers known in the immediate area. For accommodation, the nearest options are in Tiznit or Tafraoute, with an expensive hotel available at the pass in Kerdous. Food and provisions can be obtained in Tirhmi.
