Description

The Tête de Ran is a 1,422-meter-high mountain peak in the Swiss Jura, located near Les Hauts-Geneveys in the canton of Neuchâtel, approximately 9 km northwest of the city of Neuchâtel. The mountain is part of a Jura range that extends from Mont Racine through Vue des Alpes and Mont d'Amin to Chasseral. The ridge is bordered to the southeast by the Val de Ruz basin, to the north by the Vue des Alpes pass, and to the west by the upper part of the Vallée des Ponts. The ridge continues southwest to Mont Racine at an average height of 1,400 meters. To reach the take-off point, drive up to the hotel and then walk about 5 minutes along the ski lift. Parking is available at the hotel. The take-off area is oriented southeast and is considered easy. The elevation at the take-off point is 1,420 meters. There is no cable car available. Coordinates for the take-off are 6.8530993, 47.05407566. The walk to the take-off point takes about 5 minutes. Be cautious of the high-voltage power line located 300 meters to the left of the take-off area. The official landing site is in the small village of La Jonchère, directly in front, or you can choose an uncultivated field in the region. The flying area can be used all day, and cross-country flights are possible towards the east. If not flying cross-country, pilots typically land in the Val de Ruz, a basin between the first and second Jura ranges, providing some protection during landing. Summer thermals can be quite strong, typical for the Jura region. It is advised not to start in a north-easterly wind (Bise) as it is usually deflected along the Jura. Flying during a Föhn in the Alps offers a magnificent view and ideal flying conditions, as the Föhn rarely affects the Jura significantly.
