Description
Barten is situated at the peak of Skjeggen, the highest mountain just north of Sogndal's center. This location offers a few extra height meters compared to Åberge, providing a better chance and more time to catch thermals. You can land on fields near Barsnesfjord, Åberge, or Kvåle stadium in Sogndal. Note that Kvåle stadium is often in use, so if it's occupied, opt for fields further into the valley.
There are two launch sites available. The main launch faces south-east (SW-SE) and is suitable for both paragliders and speed wings, though it may not be ideal for high wing load. The eastern launch (NE-E) is 200 meters away, flatter, and likely best for paragliders and mini-wings with good wind conditions. Both launch sites were cleaned and improved in autumn 2023.
A wind gauge was set up on March 8, 2024, and can be accessed here: https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/ISOGND5. Note that the launch site is near the TIZ of Sogndal airport, so flights must be reported to the tower at 75541641. Explain your flight plan and seek approval.
The landowner requests no flying during the deer hunting season (around September) and no fires at the launch site. For more information, contact the local parish.
