Paragliding Snoqualmie Mountain, WA
Best Conditions
Optimal Wind Direction
Optimal Speed (mph)
Description
Located in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, this paragliding site offers an elevation range of 1600-1870 meters with a height difference of 600-900 meters. The site is rarely used and typically offers short flights. However, it provides many hike & fly options, making it an appealing choice for those who enjoy combining hiking with paragliding.
The trail to the launch site can be challenging, especially in early June when snow still covers most of the path. The first section of the trail is easy to lose, but it can be found again with some effort. After passing a waterfall, you will need to ascend a long ridge to reach a suitable launch spot, which is approximately 300 feet below the summit. This spot works best with south or southeast winds, while a few other spots are suitable for south or southwest winds.
Ideal flying conditions include very light south winds, clouds, and some snow on the summit. On active days, cross-country (XC) flying may be necessary. Landing is typically done in the parking lot, but if it is crowded, you can land at the winter parking area near the 'Source Lake' trailhead, which is usually empty during the summer.
Be cautious on active or windy days, as the area can experience rotor effects with almost any wind direction.
