Description
At an elevation of 1816 meters, this site is occasionally used for paragliding and offers a panoramic flight experience with the possibility of cross-country (XC) flying.
The hike to the launch site at Skålatårnet is 8.7 km long, with an elevation gain of 1843 meters, making it one of the most challenging launches to reach in Norway. The top is rocky, making it difficult to find good launch spots, but with some effort in clearing stones, it is possible. If there are other people at the top, you can borrow blankets from the hut to cover the rocks and ensure a smooth launch. Occasionally, there is a snow cornice a few stone throws east of the tower that provides a good launch spot. Note that blankets must be returned to the hut after use.
The reward for the strenuous hike is immense, offering breathtaking views of glaciers and fjords. There are many good landing spots available, including a spot right by the sea near Alexandra Hotel, where you can head straight to the spa after landing.
