Description
Located in the Boticas region of Portugal, this paragliding site offers an altitude of 1070-1100 meters with a height difference of approximately 550 meters. It is occasionally used and provides several launch options, making it suitable for soaring and some small cross-country flights.
The site record for this location is 112.4 km. The primary launch directions are Northeast, East, and Southeast, with an ideal wind orientation from 100º to 150º. The launch altitude is 1150 meters, and the vertical drop is 600 meters, making it a good spot for thermal flying.
Access to the site is generally in good condition, although part of the route is on a dirt road. The launch and access paths were improved in June 1999 by the Boticas municipality and local paragliding enthusiasts from Chaves. The site is known for its significant elevation drop and ample landing areas. The main thermal can be found at the southern end of the mountain range. Pilots should be cautious of potential turbulence near cliffs and strong downdrafts on the plateau during the landing approach.
The nearest villages are Sapiãos, close to the landing zone, and Vila de Boticas, which is 6 km away. Nearby flying sites with different wind directions include Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Serra da Padrela, S.ra d'Orada, Murgido, Sr.a do Moreira, and Mondim de Basto.
