Located in Portugal, this paragliding site offers an elevation of 946 meters with a height difference of 330 meters. It is frequently used for thermal soaring and cross-country (XC) flights are possible. The site record is an impressive 162.9 km.
To reach the take-off point, you can start from Lamas de Orelhão near the BP gas station and follow the signs, or ascend via Franco to the W/NW take-offs using a road and dirt paths. The primary type of flight here is thermal soaring, with excellent thermodynamic conditions in the late afternoon at the W/NW take-off. This site is also excellent for XC flights, with take-offs possible in nearly all directions.
Landing in the S, SE, and E directions can be technically challenging, especially in summer due to significant thermal activity. On a typical day, you can achieve great distances, with cloud bases often exceeding 3000 meters. The W/NW landing area offers an alternative landing direction.
The W, NW take-off at Serra de Santa Comba is at an altitude of 960 meters with a height difference of 450 meters and distances of 2,300 meters or 1,800 meters to the landing zones. This site is suitable for training, leisure, cross-country, and competition flights.
The most favorable time for flying is from 5 PM to 6 PM, as the wind tends to decrease, allowing for excellent leisure flights until dusk. The site's orientation and slope make it highly productive for both dynamic and thermal flights.
