Description
The Schwarzhanskarspitze, located approximately 15 kilometers southwest of Reutte in the Liegfeistgruppe of the Lechtaler Alps, is a beautiful hiking and paragliding destination. Starting from the village of Forchach at an elevation of 910 meters above sea level, the hike involves an ascent of about 1300 meters, taking between 3 to 4.5 hours. The trail begins at Gasthof Sonne in the northern part of Forchach, following path No. 103. Initially, it follows a forest road before branching off into a forest trail.
The trail is moderately steep and offers some shade, especially in the early morning. At 1460 meters, you pass a hunting lodge, and the path becomes steeper as you approach the Hochstanzer Alm, also known as Älpele. From here, the trail continues through dwarf pine fields and a cirque, leading to the final ascent to the summit, which takes an additional 20-30 minutes.
The launch site directly at the summit is very steep and only suitable for weak northwesterly winds. However, just a few meters below the summit to the north, there are larger, more favorable launch areas reminiscent of Monte Baldo, ideal for launching in SW-NW directions. Be cautious of strong thermal conditions in the afternoon, which can result in turbulent winds exceeding 50 km/h.
There is no official landing site, but the fields in Forchach are usually mowed by mid-May, making landing feasible. Alternatively, you can land at the official site in Reutte, 15 kilometers away, near the Hahnenkammbahn, which is easily reachable on thermally active days.
