Description
At an altitude of 1587 meters with a height difference of 980 meters, this paragliding site is rated as easy to medium difficulty.
The site is accessible via a walk&fly route, with a walking time of approximately 40 minutes from Hensler. Note that there is no windsock available.
This location is regularly used and offers cross-country (XC) opportunities.
Flights typically start in the afternoon around 1 PM, but be aware of potential downdrafts or side winds at the Hensler launch site.
The area is known for its excellent spring thermals. However, even at the end of summer and in autumn, Schnifnerberg impresses with its thermal and cross-country flying possibilities. Schnifis is a beautiful flying area for southern winds, but launches are also possible with west winds. After flying, you can land in Schnifner Ried and practice ground handling to your heart's content.
For cross-country flights, you can head in various directions. To the south, Switzerland beckons, while the Rhine Valley lies to the west. The best routes are towards Montafon and Arlberg. The site boasts a notable distance record of 198 km set by Simon Penz in 2008.
Be cautious of rotors at the launch site. The valley wind can cause issues in summer, as can strong west winds. During summer, side and tailwinds from the valley wind systems can quickly develop, usually leaving a short launch window around noon.
