Description
The main launch site is located at an altitude of 1848 meters with a height difference of 902 meters. This area is renowned for its excellent thermal flying conditions and is frequently used, making it a good spot for cross-country (XC) flights.
The training launch site is situated above the mountain station. To launch from the gently sloping meadow, the wind conditions must be perfect. Free flyers should get a briefing before their first flight.

The launch site is approximately 7 minutes from the mountain station and is located on a ski slope. It is crucial to respect fences and barriers to avoid conflicts with local landowners. In the afternoon, thermal conditions often result in tailwinds and turbulent flight conditions shortly after takeoff along the slope.
The launch meadow is relatively flat with little elevation difference along the slope until the forest edge. Be cautious of rotor turbulence when flying out over the ski slope.
There is a flight altitude restriction of FL95 (~2850m). For flights into the Zillertal, the restriction is FL85 (~2600m).
An alternative launch site is towards Dalfazalm, about 25 minutes from the mountain station. This site features a steeper launch slope, allowing for direct entry into thermals.
For hang gliders, there is a launch ramp next to the Erfurter Hütte. Hang gliders can land at the official landing site in Maurach or in the Inntal (fields east of Münster).

The site is suitable for paragliders and is an approved training area. It is of medium difficulty, suitable for experienced pilots. The launch site is a meadow located 6 minutes north of the mountain station.
For a more relaxed flight, especially in the afternoon, you can fly towards Pertisau to Bärenkopf or 12er for some leisurely soaring.
In case of strong west to northwest winds or strong thermals, avoid the Mauritzalm launch site and consider using the west launch site towards Dalfazalm. The windsock is visible from the mountain station. If in doubt, consult the test pilots usually present or take the free descent for paragliders and head up from Pertisau.
Typically, the valley wind shifts from south to north in the afternoon. During this transition, it is advisable to wait for the north wind to settle before landing to avoid wind shear.
Flight restrictions: The Rofan mountains are within the CTA Innsbruck East and are limited by SRA 5 to a maximum altitude of 9500 ft (~2850m). For flights towards Zillertal, you must enter SRA 2, which starts south of the Ebner Spitze at Kanzelkehre and is limited to 8500 ft (~2600m).
Thermals are usually usable even in winter. During Föhn conditions, the south wind is amplified by the Ebner Joch and Stanser Joch or Bärenkopf, creating a stronger south wind in the valley than on the mountain. It is important to check the flight weather report and wind values at Dalfazkopf (2100m) displayed at the valley station. For soaring conditions, cross the Achensee towards Bärenkopf or 12er. In the afternoon, the valley wind usually sets in here.
