Description
The paragliding site at Rivotti, located in the Comune di Groscavallo, Regione Piemonte, Provincia di Torino, is a lesser-known spot primarily used for soaring flights. The takeoff area is situated at an altitude of 1670 meters above sea level and features a grassy meadow at the edge of a pine forest with a 20% slope. The prevailing winds are from the south-west, with valley breezes. It is important to note that flying is not recommended with winds from the north.
To reach the takeoff point, drive from Torino towards Lanzo, then follow the directions to Ceres. At the only traffic light, turn right and follow the signs for Cantoira, then Chialamberto, and finally Pialpetta (Comune di Groscavallo). After passing through the village, turn right onto a road that starts paved and then becomes unpaved. Upon reaching Rivotti, continue on foot for 500 meters along the GTA trail (look for signs).
The landing area is located in Pialpetta at an altitude of 1060 meters above sea level. It is an agricultural meadow with dimensions of 30 meters in width and 200 meters in length. The only obstacles are two trees, which are easily avoidable. To reach the landing zone, pass through Pialpetta, turn left at the debris depot, park before the bridge, and proceed on foot. The landing field is the first meadow on the right after the bridge.
The best flying conditions are with winds from the south or south-west, and there are possible thermals to the right of the takeoff area. The site is accessible year-round, except during periods of snow cover.
