Description
Located in Italy, this paragliding site is situated at an altitude of 2460 meters with a height difference of 1500 meters. It is rarely used but offers some soaring opportunities and the possibility for cross-country flights. The site record is 115.5 km.
The main launch area is next to a former military radio station. You can reach it by a 30-minute walk from the cable car's mountain station or by car with a special permit from the local police. Top landing is possible.
For soaring conditions, a brisk southwest wind allows for good soaring below the Telegraf launch site. The area is ideal for westerly winds and light northerly winds at higher altitudes. It is not recommended to fly in easterly winds, Föhn conditions, or just before a front moves in due to valley winds.
There are several launch sites:
1. Trametsch Ski Slope at 2055 meters, located 3 minutes north of the cable car mountain station in the forest.
2. Schönjöchl at 2301 meters, accessible in about 20 minutes on foot from the cable car. This hill with meadows has no forest and allows launches in all directions.
3. Telegraf at 2474 meters, a very large launch area accessible by off-road vehicle, with a shelter nearby. Launch directions include S/SW/W/NW.
Be cautious of strong valley winds at the landing field after 14:00. Launching is not recommended in Föhn conditions or easterly winds due to very rough and turbulent conditions.
For cross-country flights, heading towards Marmolada is possible. Ensure you have a good initial altitude to cross the northern peaks, as thermals are only on the southern slopes. Returning might be easier. The Plose area serves as a good thermal refueling station, especially for large triangular flights starting from Speikboden.
The Plose ski area near Brixen is also an excellent flying site, known for its superb thermals in spring and offering challenging flying fun year-round. The winter season runs from December to April, and hiking season from July to September. A bus operates to the launch site during the flying season when weather conditions are favorable.
