Description
Peña Cabarga, located 7 km from Santander, Spain, offers an easy paragliding experience with a take-off altitude of 569 meters above sea level. The launch site is straightforward, featuring a spacious grassy area with convenient access. Pilots are advised to keep the telecommunications repeater antennas to their right after take-off.
Landing is typically done at the base of the mountain, conveniently near the road. However, there are multiple landing spots available if needed, including the take-off area if conditions allow for flying above it. The site is generally easy, but pilots should always assess flight conditions on-site.
Access to Peña Cabarga is via the Santander-Solares highway, taking the San Salvador exit. The site is influenced by the nearby sea, which can weaken thermal activity on the slopes. Winds are usually slightly cross at the take-off point, with a dominant NE wind in the summer providing mild thermal conditions.
Caution is advised around the numerous antennas, and landing can be somewhat tricky due to high tension lines and nearby roads. The elevation difference is 500 meters, and the site supports dynamic flying.
